In October 2004, the first unit of the Brazilian company built outside the country was opened in the Mexican city of Puebla, 125 kilometers away from Mexico City. Some of the truck and bus chassis models are produced there. Because of this new unit, which has 11 thousand square meters, Volkswagen gained the capability of supplying commercial vehicles throughout Latin America.
In May 2007, the plant had reached the level of 3 thousand vehicles produced. This is due to the SKD system, for the assembly of semi-complete systems, which guarantee the production of more than 100 vehicles per month. To meet the new demand, Volkswagen Trucks and Buses agencies were opened in Mexico, which is considered the largest market outside Brazil. These new customers receive products with electronic motor systems with Level Euro III emissions and are identical to those sold in Brazil, but adapted for local consumers.
